Abstract

The study of society is never complete without the discussion of the relation of friendship which is too important besides it shapes society. The current study is descriptive in nature and the data is secondary whereas the qualitative approach has been used to analyze the data. In this research, the researchers have analyzed the theme of friendship in terms of its beginning and breakup; moreover the researchers have tried to discuss and identify those socio-psychological factors that bring about the vicissitude of such relations such as friendship. The researcher has also analyzed, how these socio-psychological elements i.e. jealousy, class difference, keeping secrets and sexual violence affects friendship. The novel, “Here we lie” by Paula Treick DeBoard, has been analyzed in the light of interdependence Theory and Reis and Shaver’s model of intimacy that reflect the factors which affect friendship. The results reflected that there are many social factors that influence this relationship.
